Brother of James Albert Sooningwho was killed in action on 8 August 1915 at Gallipoli while serving with the 15th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the Lone Pine, Memorial Panel 49;

Commenced return to Australia on 25 January 1919 aboard HT Ceramic disembarking n the 26 March 1919
