He was 27 and a son of Ellen Cooksley of Walnut Terrace, Alcombe, Somerset, England, and the late William Cooksley.

His younger brother also fell. He wasLance Corporal  Charles Patrick Cooksley-Service Number: 25146-who served with British forces [ 2nd Battalion, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers] Died 24 June 1918; aged 21 years.

Buried in TERLINCTHUN BRITISH CEMETERY, WIMILLE, France-Grave I. B. 22.

The brothers are honoured on the stained glass window in the church of St Michael the Archangel at Alcombe, Minehaed, Somerset.
