Biography contributed by John Edwards

"THE LATE PRIVATE G. BREWER.

Private Gordon Brewer was wounded between August 7 and 15, and died on August 22 at Malta. He was among the first to enlist at Broken Hill, and belonged to the 12th Battalion. He went to Tasmania to make up the quota of that State. Of a bright and fearless disposition, he had many friends both at the front and at home, and his letters were always cheerful. He was in the trenches from the first, and wrote that he had often fared worse in the Australian bush, and his chief regret seemed to be that many men that could go stayed at home. He has two brothers-in-law at the front, Staff-Sergeant F. Maddeford, of the 9th Light Horse, and Private J. V. Matthew, of the 11th Light Horse." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 09 Oct 1915 (nla.gov.au)
