6 May 1918: Involvement AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 46th Infantry Battalion, Villers-Bretonneux, Recommended for MC for action at Villers-Bretonneux on 1 May 1918. Lt Muriel lead a party to capture German held farm. Wounded in the process, he continued forward to locate and gather intelligence regarding enemy machine gun firing upon them. He was able to alert his patrol, avoiding greater casualties.
16 Sep 1918: Honoured Military Cross, Award - Military Cross London Gazette - 16 September 1918 on page 11050 at position 11
8 Oct 1918: Involvement AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 46th Infantry Battalion, Recommendation for Bar to MC. For conspicuous gallantry and leadership at Bellenglise on the night of 18th September 1918, leading attack under bombardment to capture position, many prisoners and machine guns. He then led small party in attack and capture of trench, 20 prisoners and two machine guns. His untiring energy later organized the repulse of very strong counter attack.
24 Aug 1919: Discharged AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 46th Infantry Battalion, Returned to Australia 20th May 1919 per "Nestor"
