Biography contributed by Evan Evans

52nd Battalion AIF

Sgt John Robert PRINDIVILLE had been born in Broken Hill NSW but was living and working as a bookkeeper in WA when he enlisted in August 1915, at age 22. He sailed from Fremantle with the 12th reinforcements to the 12th Bn on HMAT A31 (SS Ajana) on 17 December 1915. He was transferred to the 52nd after arrival in Egypt. After moving to France in June, he was promoted to lance corporal in July, then corporal in August. He was promoted to sergeant in the aftermath of Mouquet Farm. Admitted to hospital with bronchitis in April 1917, he rejoined the unit in May. At Messines, eyewitnesses saw him hit by the concussion blast from a large German shell just as the 52nd was moving back to support other AIF units. He was bringing up the rear of 16 Platoon in D Company. He was buried near the graves of Privates KRUSHKA (#4632), ROWE (#2494), BILSON (#2858) and GARLICK (#3553)
