Son of John O'Connell and Mary O'Connell of Eumungerie, NSW. 

Brother of Edward Bede O'Connell who returned to Australia on 22 January 1919 having served with the 1st Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 22 January 1920 aboard HT Friedrichsruh disembarking on 12 March 1920

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
