'PHILIPS, Robert Erskine. No. 2227, 49th Battalion. Born at Pine Creek, and educated at Electra. The son of the late Robert Erskine Philips and Margaret Philips, of Electra, Bundaberg. Enlisted February 1915, and went into camp at Brisbane. Sailed in August, 1916, for England, where he went to Salisbury Plain for training. Left for France, and went into action. Was in the line until 26th September, 1917, when he was killed in action.' from Queenslanders Who Fought in the Great War. (nla.gov.au)

On Friday last his Worship the Mayor (Ald. R. Ruddell) was advised by telegram that Private Robert Philips, son of Mrs. Philips, of Pine Creek, was killed in action on 26th September. At the request of the Mayor (Ald. R. Ruddell) was advisded the sad news conveyed to Mrs. Philips the same evening. The deceased young man was well known in the South Bingera district, and much sympathy will be extended to the widowed mother of the gallant young man and the other members of the family In their hour of sorrow for the loss of their heroic son and brother, who gave his life for his country's sake.' from The Bundaberg Mail and Burnett Advertiser 22 Oct 1917 (nla.gov.au)
