Son of Henry Edward Vallance and Mary Ellen Vallance nee Skerry of Tatura Street, Caulfield, Victoria.

On 20 August 1918 Roy married Florence Lilian Burgess in the Church of England, Warminster, Wiltshire, England. H.R. Whytehead, Canon of Salisbury officiated.
