Charlie was well known on the Darling Downs through the coursing (greyhounds) competitions. He entered dogs regularly and one frequent winner was called Masher. He was a popular fellow in Allora where he served on the Presbyterian Church committees.
Charlie was severely wounded in Gallipoli and sent to Malta to recover before being transferred to Brisbane. He received a medical discharge and war pension of 1 pound per fortnight with his wife Agnes receiving 10s per fortnight. These pensions were reduced to 15s and 7s6d per fortnight respectively from 25th April 1918.
By 1917 Charlie and Agnes had moved from Allora to Brisbane where Charlie gained work as a watchman. Later he would return to his former occupation as a boot repairer.
There is no record of Charlie and Agnes having any children.
