Lawrence Victor CAHLL was born on the 23rd June  1883 in Adelaide, South Australia to parents Thomas CAHILL and Annie HOGAN.  James was the ninth born of 10 children.

Lawrence enlisted on the 2nd of August 1915 in Adelaide, later jounung the 12th Infantry Battalion.

His older brother, SN 1989 Private James William CAHLL also enlisted, but died of wounds as a prisoner on War on the 3rd of August 1916.

Lawrence returned from the war and married Bridget GIBBS, nee FORRESTAL in 1926.
