Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery, not forgotten.

64 years ago today, on the 29th December 1958, Private Alfred George Quick, 23rd Australian Machine Gun Company (Reg No-6606), cabinetmaker's apprentice from 10 Westmoreland Street, Glebe, (Forest Lodge) New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age about 61. METHODIST 4-26. 52.

Born at Liverpool, England about 1897 to James Henry and Mary Quick; husband of Catherine Muriel Quick nee Arnold (married 1937, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 1975, sleeping here), Alfred enlisted November 1916 with the 19th Battalion at Sydney, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 3.12.1917 (GSW back, SW left knee).

Embarked for England 15.12.1917.

Admitted to hospital 16.12.1917.

Alfred returned home on the 5th July 1918, being discharged medically unfit on the 26th November 1918.

Mr. Quick’s name has been inscribed on the Glebe Town Hall First World War Roll of Honor (photo).

Younger brother Sydney Herbert (19th Battalion & 23rd Australian Machine Gun Company, Reg No-6607, born Boston, United States Of America 1896?, died 30th April 1973, age-77) also resting at the cemetery. CATHOLIC 3-100. 194.

I have placed poppies at the gravesites of these 2 brothers who served during The Great War in remembrance of their sacrifice for God, King & Country.
