His father was a munition worker, his brother 3350 Pte David Charles Armstrong, 58th Battalion AIF, was killed in action, 8 March 1918. Another brother 2630 Pte James Stanley Armstrong, 59th Battalion, returned to Australia, 15 January 1919.
