Luke

Luke was born at McDonald's Flat, Clermont, to Horace Michael & Lily Ann (Spoor) on 8.5.1896.
He enlisted on 4.8.1915 & embarked from Brisbane aboard the "Seang Bee" for Egypt. He embarked in Marselles, France on 29.3.1916 & posted to the 12th Battalion. 4 months later, he was wounded by a gunshot to his left knee in the battle of Pozieres (there were 5,285 Australian casualties during the battle. He returned to the Battalion on 8.12.1916. He was also hospitalised for trench foot, damage to his right foot & influenza. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 3.10.1918. Returning to Australia on 12.5.1919.
He married Agnes Morrison & they resided in Marathon Street, Proserpine. They had 3 sons, with 2 serving in WW2. He passed away on 6.5.1954.
