- Citation for Gallantry - At the Battle of Polygon Wood
2041 Private Francis Charles HALL 29th Battalion 3rd Reinforcement A.I.F. At Polygon Wood on 26th. September, 1917, telephone communications broke down early in the day, and runners had to be used exclusively. Many runners became casualties, so that those remaining had to work very hard. During the whole of 26th.and 27th. September, Private HALL carried numerous messages through heavy enemy Barrages and machine gun fire, and on two occasions through a gas shell barrage. On 27th. September, our own heavy artillery shelled us, and Pte. HALL carried a message through our own and enemy's barrage to have the Artillery's shooting rectified. Recommendation: Military Medal [MM] Lieutenant-Colonel Muir Purser C.O. 29th Battalion
