79 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 30th April 1945, Private Bertram James Lamerton, referred to as Bert, 30th Battalion (Reg No-2379), bricklayer from 126 Maitland Road, Islington, New South Wales and 7 Carrington Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., father of one (Dorothea), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 53. ANGLICAN 3-170. 6.

Born at Lithgow, New South Wales on the 24th January 1892 to Alexander White, died 22.2.1927, Newcastle, N.S.W., age?, buried at ANGLICAN 2-124. 85, from "Tarella", 158 Maitland Road, Islington, N.S.W., and Caroline Mary Lamerton, died 4.11.1950, Petersham, N.S.W., age 90, mother of 3, of 54 Denison Street, Lewisham, N.S.W.; husband of Dorothy (Dorothea) Mary Ann Lamerton nee Funnell (married 1914, Burwood, N.S.W., died 1979, Sydney?, N.S.W., sleeping at?), Bert enlisted on the 4th November 1915 at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on the 11th March 1916.

Admitted to hospital 2.12.1916 (trench feet).

Commenced return to Australia 22.2.1917.

Bert arrived home on the 10th April 1917, being discharged medically unfit (trench feet) on the 12th October 1917.

Mr. Lamerton’s name has been inscribed on the Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1), Islington St. Mark's Anglican Church Roll of Honour and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Bert’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
