David Peach was the son of James and Christina Peach of Upper Tent Hill, Gatton, Queensland. His younger adopted brother, with whom he had been raised, 4554 Lance Corporal Percy Peach, 47th Battalion had been killed in action at Dernancourt on 3 April 1918, only three weeks before David died. Neither has a known grave.
