Son of James and Mary Poyner of Park Villa, Sutton Road, Kidderminster, England. Brother of James Ernest Poyner who was serving in the Royal Navy on board HMS Nessus when he was killed during the Battle of Jutland on 1 June 1916 and has no known grave. His name appears on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Panel 13
