Norman Spencer Ashby ROLLS was born on 26th January, 1887 in Wimbledon, Surrey, England

His parents were Percy William ROLLS and Maud Marion ASHBY who married in 1884 in New Forest, England

He had previously served as an Electrical Engineer Volunteer for 4 years before he enlisted in Ilfracombe, Queensland on 18th August, 1915 & was made a 2nd Corporal, Motor Driver in the No. 1 Mining Corps which embarked on 20th February, 1916 from Sydney on the ship HMAT Ulysses.

Norman died of a brain haemorrhage on 13/14th March, 1917 at the 26th General Hospital, Estaples, France

His name os memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Roll of Honour at Blackheath Proprietary School in London

He was awareded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
