An Original Anzac awaiting memorialisation at Sandgate Cemetery with brother Jack.
105 years ago today, on the 22nd August 1916, Driver Albert Robert Youngman, 3rd Australian Field Artillery Brigade (Reg No-2295), labourer and farmer from Yandina, North Coast Line, Queensland, Died of Wounds, age 27.
Born at Ashfield, New South Wales on the 10th January 1889 to Owen Hedworth (1865-1966, age 101!) and Emily (1869-1935, age 66) Youngman nee Clegg; husband of Margaret Ann Youngman nee? (married? died?), remarried as PICCO, from South Woodburn, Richmond River, N.S.W., Albert enlisted August 1914 with the Field Artillery Brigade at Ayr, Queensland.
Admitted to hospital 16.7.1916 (malaria), and wounded in action - 21.8.1916 (GSW chest, compound fracture of leg), Albert is resting at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France. Plot II Row F Grave 3.
Mr. Youngman’s name has been inscribed on the Nambour Heroes Walk, Nambour Maroochy Shire War Dead Memorial and the Yandina War Memorial - https://vwma.org.au/explore/memorials/3043, unveiled on the 7th June 1924.
There is no headstone for younger brother John (Jack) Leslie Youngman (Rat of Tobruk, 2/32nd Battalion, Service No-QX350, born 1900, West Maitland, N.S.W., sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen, scrotum and legs, died 1969, photo of Jack 2nd right) resting in an unmarked grave at Sandgate Cemetery, therefore no memorial inscription to tell us of the supreme sacrifice of older brother Albert during The Great War, so December 2020 I placed a memorial and grave cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service. CATHOLIC 3-96. 138.
Younger brother Cecil Joseph (2nd Australian Machine Gun Battalion, Reg No-297, born 1892, West Maitland, N.S.W., died?) also served 1st A.I.F.
Younger brother Joseph Douglas (3rd Australian Field Artillery Brigade, Reg No-370, born 1895, West Maitland, N.S.W., died?) also served 1st A.I.F. and 2nd A.I.F. (Q204732).
