Biography contributed by Trinity College

Roy Clifford Birkett was born on the 9th of January 1893 to John and Mary Matilda in Evanston, South Australia. One of his sister, Clara Smith married James Smith. James Smith is the person last identified to have Roy's war medals.

He enlisted on the 23rd of November 1914 so he basically signed up as soon as he possibly could - eager to go to war. When he enlisted he was 21 and a half years old and working as a labourer and was unmarried.

He was placed in the second reinforcements of the 3rd Lighthorse Regiment and was deployed on the 29th of January 1915.
