Son of Charles John and Mary Jane Pearce, of Yass St., Young, New South Wales
Mr C. J. Pearce, junr., of North Berry Jerry, has received the following letter from the officer-in-charge of the Military Forces of the Commonwealth, 2nd Military District.—"Dear Sir, —It is with regret I have to inform you that as a result of a special court of inquiry it has been ascertained that Private W. E. Pearce, 3rd Battalion, previously reported missing, was killed in action between 7th and 12th August, 1916. I am directed to convey to you the deep regret and sympathy of their Majesties the King and Queen and the Commonwealth Government in the loss that you and the army have sustained by the death of this soldier. Yours, etc.,
WM. J. SHERBON." [It will be remembered that Private Pearce was reported as missing, but the foregoing information proves conclusively that the young soldier met his death fighting for his King and country.]
