Died on this date – 27th August…… Richard Leslie White was born on 4th February, 1894 at Cemetery Road, Warracknabeal, Victoria. His father Thomas White died on 25th January, 1912 & was buried in Kojonup Cemetery, Western Australia.

On 26th January, 1915 Richard Leslie White enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as a 21 year old, single, Sleeper Hewer from Western Australia.

Private Richard Leslie White, Service number 2042, embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on HMAT Hororata (A20) on 29th April, 1915 with the 11th Infantry Battalion, 5th Reinforcements.

He was taken on strength of 11th Battalion at Dardanelles on 22nd June, 1915 from 5th Reinforcements. On 7th January, 1916 Private White disembarked at Alexandria from Empress of Britain (after the evacuation at Gallipoli).

On 6th February, 1916 Private White was sent to Instructional School at Habieta & rejoined his Unit on 27th February, 1916.

Private White was transferred from 11th Battalion to 3rd Infantry Brigade Machine Gun Company on 11th March, 1916. He was taken on strength of 3rd Machine Gun Company on 13th March, 1916 at Serapeum.

He proceeded from Alexandria on 29th March, 1916 to join B.E.F. (British expeditionary Force) & disembarked at Marseilles, France on 5th April, 1916.

Private Richard Leslie White was reported Missing in France from 24th July, 1916. He had been admitted to 1st Field Ambulance on 23rd July, 1916 with Shrapnel wound/s to Skull. He was transferred & admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station on 23rd July, 1916 with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) then transferred on 30th July, 1916 to 30th Ambulance Train.

On 1st August, 1916 Private White was admitted to King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, England with penetrating G.S.W. to Skull – severe. He was reported to be seriously ill on 23rd August, 1916.
Private Richard Leslie White died at 10 pm on 27th August, 1916 at King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, England from wounds received in action in France – G.S.W. to Skull.

He was buried in All Saints Cemetery, Nunhead, London, England where 27 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
