Military Medal
'For pluck and teracity under heavy machine gun fire. At LAGNICOURT at dawn on 15th April when the enemy attacked in force, Pvt. Stone was in charge of a Lewis Gun. Under direction of Lieut. Roper he took up a postion in rear of the sunken road and succeeded in keeping back a strong German attack against our rear, being all the time under an intense fire from two enemy machine guns. Although wounded, he continued firing until relieved by his No. 2 Gunner.'

News has been received, says the Geraldton Express, to the effect that Private V. T. Stone, youngest son of Mrs. Mary Stone, of Eleanor-street, was killed in action on January 17. Private Stone, who was 21 years of age last September, enlisted about two and a half years ago, he being then employed at the Geraldton Post Office. He was a member of the 12th Battalion, had taken part in all the big engagements on the western front, and was awarded the Military Medal a few months ago for conspicuous bravery in the firing line. He was wounded on one occasion, and this necessitated his being laid up in hospital for five weeks; after which he returned to the trenches, remaining there (with the exception of ten days leave) until his bright-career was ended on the date mentioned. Vincent was possessed of many estimable qualities, and was a general favorite. He was also a promising athlete, and, as well as being a student of the Presentation Convent School, completed his education at Perth Christian Brothers' College.
