Served in Egypt, France and Belgium. Taken prisoner at Reincourt on April 11, 1917 and interred at Estammlager, Limburg, Germany and Pommern Germany. Offficially declared as Prisoner of war on 6 September 1917 after previously being declared missing in action. Repatriated to Rippon in England on December 12 1918 and returned to Australia aboard the "Zealandic" in August 1919.
