Son of Roland and Hannah Sandstrom of Sydney, NSW. Brother of Malcolm Sandstrom of Government Railways, York, WA
Husband of Lena Sandstrom of Wooroloo, WA later of Dapto, NSW. It is thought that she left several places of employment due to an alcohol problem and is thought to have died prior to the end of the War. There was a child who was born with serious health issues and was not expected to live
