John
John was the brother of Hugh and Harold Norman Cameron - all of the brothers died in WW1.

John Cameron
John was one of three sons of John & Rachel Cameron who served their country in WW1. He was the 2nd of the brothers to enlist (aged 23yrs 3mths) and also the 2nd to die. Sadly his grave is unknown.

John Cameron was one of eight children and his father had died in a gun accident when he was just a few years of age. He enlisted at the age of 20 during 1914. He was reported missing on Gallipoli 2 May 1915 and nothing further was heard. He was not confirmed as killed in action until March 1918. His mother, Mrs. Rachel Cameron was granted 2 pounds per fortnight from 16 January 1916. The mother always signed her name with a mark, witnessed by the postmaster at Wandsworth NSW.
John's brother, 2298 Pte. Harold Norman Cameron 20th Battalion AIF, died of wounds 5 May 1916, aged 19.
An older brother, 1640 Lce. Cpl. Hugh Cameron 9th Battalion AIF, was killed in action 1 June 1916, aged 32.
Their mother Rachel passed away in Glen Innes during 1924, and it was reported in the local paper that “She was ever of a kind and genial disposition, and will be greatly missed in our little community. She was born at Ollera, and had resided here for about 43 years. She had three sons, Hugh, John and Norman, in the Great War, all of whom made the supreme sacrifice. It is rather a singular thing her husband met his death by a gun accident.”
