Eric Richard Riley enlisted in the 12th Infantry Battalion on 1/7/1916 stating his age as 18 years and 5 months.  He was gassed on 3/11/1917 towards the end of the Battles for Passchendale.  He was dischared on 9/7/1919.

Eric Richard Riley enlisted for the second World War on the 20/2/1939 in the 40th Battalion as a Private.  He was first promoted to Corporal on 1/9/1939, then Company Seargent Major on the same date.  He was later discharged on 5/4/1940.  His grave stone in Kingston Cemetery says he was accidentally killed at Pontville 17/6/1940.
