George Hubert Vincent Smith was the son of David Smith and Ellen Smith (nee Flynn) and his place of association was given as Kyneton Victoria. When he enlisted, he was married to Agnes Smith and had two small children, John Anthony Smith (age 3) and Ellen Mary Smith (age 2).
George was killed by shell fire in the early hours of 4 October 1917. His remains, and his identity disc were found during 1920 and was buried in the Aeroplane Cemetery, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
His father was married previously and George’s older half-brother 3137 Private James Smith 6th Battalion AIF, died of wounds 14 September 1916, age 37.
