30 Jul 1917: Promoted AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 4th Machine Gun Company, Boyd was promoted to Lieutenant in the field during the Battle of Messines.
26 Sep 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 4th Machine Gun Company, Polygon Wood, While in Supports, examining an old three compartment dug-out Lieutenant Clouston was hit with German shells. He was taken by Field Ambulance to 10th Clearing Station at Zonnebeke but died there at 10.30 p.m. from his extensive wounds. He had partially lost a leg amongst other injuries.
