Biography contributed by Margaret Stokes

Andrew J. Sinclair was born in New Zealand, but most of his life has been spent in Victoria. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the A.I.F., and served overseas with the 24th and 26th Battalion and the 17th Field Ambulance. He has led a most active life and is associated with many public organisations.

In 1937 he was elected to the Caulfield Council and held Mayoral office during 1942, 1949, 1957, and 1961. He was a commissioner on the Metropolitan Board of Works, and the only councillor on the Executive of the Victorian Baby Health Centre Association.

On the formation of the Victorian Road Transport Association he was elected to represent the Taxi Cab Division on the Executive Council, where he has rendered admirable service. As the endorsed Liberal candidate he contested the Oakleigh seat in the State Parliament, but was narrowly defeated.

George, as he is commonly known to his friends, was a keen golfer, and in 1937 he won the coveted A.I.F. Cup. He is also interested in racing, and has two or three horses in training. He held a Commission as a Justice of the Peace, and was an enthusiast for the V.R.T.A.
