Son of Max Zines and Olga Zine of Clifton Street, Perth, WA formerly of Saint Petersberg, Russia. Max was natuarlised on 22 April 1915 having arrived at Fremantle, WA from Port Said on 6 December 1907 aboard Gneisenau accompanied his wife, son Joseph and three daughters.

Commenced return to Australia on 20 December 1917 aboard HT Runic disembarking on 6 February 1918

During 1926c Joseph married Ruby Weingott in Sydney, NSW
