Robert Herbert THOMPSON was born in Traralgon, Victoria in 1891 and was farming at Lancefield Junction (near Sunbury) when he joined the AIF on 28/7/1915 in Melbourne.

Robert was 5ft 71/2 inches tall, had blue eyes and brown hair.

He showed his next of kin as both his mother, Rhoda Thompson and his wife Ida Thompson both living at Lancefield Junction.

He left Melbourne on 5/1/1916 as part of the Field Artillery.

Robert was killed in action on 11/10/1917 during fighting near Ypres, Belgium.

He is buried at The Huts Cemetery just south/west of Ypres.

He is remembered on the Sunbury War Memorial.
