Francis was the son of George and Rhoda Sims; husband of Emma Anne Sims, of New Lambton, New South Wales. He was the father of Francis Kimberley Sims, aged 14 when his father died of wounds in 1916. Francis junior died as a POW of the Japanese in Singapore during 1943 in WW2, serving with the 2/19th Battalion.
