Michael LYONS was born at Mt Gambier on 25.04.1889 to Denis (1844-1930) and Ellen LYONS (nee BARRY 1858-1930).

Michael LYONS married Annie Myrtle (Molly) MORLEY (1900-1988) in February 1923

Michael LYONS joined the AIF on 17.01.1916 and was allocated service number 2660.  He was attached to the 47th Battalion.

He was wounded in action in France on 07.08.1916 with a gunshot wound to the left thigh and returned to England for treatment before returning to his battalion.

He was again wounded in action on 07.06.1917 in France.

On 27.03.1918 he was wounded in action for the third time with gunshot wounds to the fingers and hospitalised until 11.04.1918

On 30.04.1918, he was wounded in action for a 4th time having been gassed.

He returned to Australia and was discharged from the AIF on 20.10.1919. 

Michael LYONS died as a result of an altercation with a fellow WW1 veteran in Mac’s Hotel, Mt Gambier on 15.11.1924.
