SERGT. W. W. CAVILL.
Sergt. W. W. Cavill (died of wounds) was a resident of Portland for about 14 years, and was employed at the cement works. He was at the Boer war for about 18 months, and received a medal with five clasps. At the time of enlisting he was a captain in the Portland senior cadets, and took a leading part in many movements for the good of the town and residents. He left with the 3rd Battalion as sergeant, and died on 21st inst. He leaves a widow and two children.
