Derrick William Kennedy Taylor was born in England during 1895. His father was a surgeon-doctor and probably served in the British army during the war. He signed the Roll of Honour form as Lt-Col William Kennedy-Taylor RAMC, retired. The father’s address was in Alexandria, Egypt. Derrick came to Australia only two years before the war. He was an agricultural student at the Bathurst Experimental Farm.
Derrick joined the 4th Battalion on Gallipoli on 4 August 1915, two days before the epic assault on Lone Pine. Derrick disappeared during the chaotic hand to hand fighting that took place for days at Lone Pine. Reported missing, his remains were never found. The manager of the Bathurst Experimental Farm wrote to Base Records later in 1915, having heard rumours of Derrick Taylor’s death.
