FC Pike

Private Frederick Charles Pike (Service No. 3209) participated in the Battle of Mouquet Farm, a crucial confrontation during the Battle of the Somme. This battle began during the Battle of Pozières, which spanned between 23 July to 3 September 1916. The soldiers were armed with machine guns and engaged in combat utilizing grenades. On 10 August 1916, Private Pike sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Initially, his body remained on the battlefield, but it was later interred in a cemetery situated between Pozières and Mouquet Farm, probably at coordinates SL 57 degrees SE, R 24C. Councillor J. C. Page, of Toongabbie, received word this week that his nephew, Private F. C. Pike, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Pike, of Enfield, had been killed in action in France on August 19.
