Thomas's parents were William James Waller and Constance Rachel Roast. Thomas was living in Mapleton with his family when he enlisted on 28 September 1915 at Brisbane, his occupation was a fruit grower. His parents gave written consent for him to enlist as he was underage. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 31 January 1916. Thomas was killed in action aged 21.
