George MONTGOMERY (Service Number 5079) was born in Coonabarabran on 25th June 1888.  He joined the Tramways in Sydney as a casual conductor in March 1913 but resigned in July.  He was re-employed in December and made permanent in December 1914.  In September 1915 he was released from duty to enlist in the AIF at Casula.

He embarked from Sydney in June 1916. He was landed in England in August, and spent some time in hospital with mumps.  He joined the 33rd Battalion in September and was sent with them to France in November. 

On 10th May 1917 he was killed in action, and buried in the London Rifle Brigade Military Cemetery, 400 yards from the cross roads at Ploegsteert, 2¼ miles N of Armentières.
