Albert was one of three sons of William Albert Comport and Ellen (Nel) Comport (nee Cutbush), who were all killed in action during the Great War. His brothers served with the New Zealand forces.  

6/3282 Private William Charles Comport, Canterbury Regiment NZEF, was killed in action two months after Albert’s death, on 16 September 1916. Also 56416 Rifleman Henry Comport, 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade, NZRB, died 8 October 1918, Aged 22.

Another brother, 3519 Private John Comport also enlisted in the AIF, and served in the 56th Battalion, returning home medically unfit in early 1918.

Albert was severely wounded at Fromelles, 20 July 1916. He subsequently died of his wounds behind Battalion Lines on being carried to a Field Ambulance the same day. 20 July 1916. He was buried Rue de Bois Cemetery by Reverend G.W.B. Statt.
