Son of Esther Utteridge of Forth, Tasmania.

Brother of Albert Utteridge who was killed in action on 26 February 1917 and is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Plot IV, Row F, Grave No. 34  Another brother, Thomas Henry Utteridge, who enlisted in Tasmania but was discharged three months later. He died soon after from cerrebal-meningitis in the Hobart Hospital.

Commenced return to Australia on 16 March 1918 aboard HS Kanowna disembarking on 22 May 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Hobart.
