Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Brother, 1026 Sapper Claude Charles Barnard 4th Divisional Signal Company, returned to Australia, 12 July 1919.
Clement Barnard transferred to 'D' Company, 8th Bn, 3 March 1915. He and his brother landed with the 8th Battalion on 25 April 1915 at Anzac. This caused many soldiers to confuse the two, as Claude was wounded in the leg during June 1915.

Clement was first reported missing, Gallipoli, 25 April 1915 at a Court of Inquiry held by 8th Bn at Gallipoli on 16 October 1915, found that he was either killed or prisoner of war; a Court of Inquiry held at Rouen, France, 3-5 September 1917, declared he was killed in action, 25 April 1915: this finding was confirmed by Lt-General W.R. Birdwood on 23 September 1917.
