Farrier Sergeant Christmas Henry Winzar (Service No:252) enlisted in the AIF on 17 August 1914 and was a Driver attached to 2nd Field Ambulance when he embarked from Melbourne on 19 October 1914 on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire. He served in France and was hospitalised with Influenza, returning to Australia on 15 February 1918 on board HT Llanstephan Castle. Farrier Sergeant Winzar was attached to 1 Field Ambulance when he was Discharged on 21 June 1918.

Born on Christmas Day 1885 in Oxfordshire England, Chris was the eldest of four children of Joseph Henry Winzar (b1864 in Dorset, England) and Annie Maria Pugh (b1859 in Denbighshire, Wales). Joseph (a Locomotive Fireman) and Annie (a Gentlewoman's Assistant) married in Wallingford, Oxfordshire in 1885. In 1897 Joseph was engaged as an Engine Driver to work in Perth WA and the family arrived in Albany WA on board the Orizaba. Joseph worked as a Railway Warehouseman in Fremantle WA (1904) and as an Engine Driver in Perth, Mt Magnet and Boulder WA.

Chris worked as a Motor Mechanic in Boulder WA before enlisting in the AIF. He was working as a Fitter in 1918 when he married Alice Esther Martine (b1891 in Tylden, Victoria) in Kyneton, Victoria. Chris and Alice settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Chris worked as a Fitter and Insurance Agent. Chris died in 1961 and Alice in 1979.
