Norman Roy Scott was one of the three sons of George Alexander Scott and Katherine Elizabeth Scott of Devonport, Tasmania, who enlisted in the AIF during WW1. His brother, 365 Sergt. Lewis George Scott 12th Battalion AIF, was killed in action near Boursies, France between the 6-10 April 1917, aged 23.

Prior to embarking Lance-Corporal Scott was manager of the Riana branch of the Emu Bay Co's butter factory, and was a member of the Burnie band.

Another brother, 2457 Pte. William Pringle Scott served with the 1st Remount Unit in Egypt.
