Cahir was reported missing, 8 August 1915, later confirmed as a prisoner of war, interned at Barzanti Terminus, Anatolian Railway, Taurus Mountain, 21 February 1916. He was repatriated from Turkey; arrived Port Said, Egypt, 29 November 1918 and returned to Australia 25 December 1918. Cahir’s medical report of 1919 noted that he suffered from malaria for three years and Spanish influenza and ‘feels well but weak’. His older brother 5138 Private William Francis Cahir 22nd Battalion AIF, was killed in action 3 October 1917 age 31.
