Commenced return to Australia on 12 June 1919 aboard HT Themistocles disembaking on 20 July 1919 at Cape Town, South Africa for special leave at his own expense and own request. Resumed return to Australia on 8 August 1919 aboard HT Prinz Ludwig disembarking at Melbourne on 29 August 1919 for onward trip to Hobart
