5 May 1917 - Wounded in action, severe gunshot wounds to the back

25 April 1918 - He was recoomended for the Military Medal: Citation reads, 

"For great coolness and absolute disregard for personal safety during the night of 16-17 April 1918. Set a fine example of devotion to duty to his comrades. (At Strazeele)."
