Norman Leslie Carter was the son of George Henry Carter (1863-1955) and Phoebe Elizabeth Criddle (1870-1960) of Dongara. He was one of eight children.

He was killed aged 21 years at the Second Battle of Bullecourt but has no known grave. His memorial is at Villers-Bretonneaux in France. He enlisted in January 1916 two days after his brother Percy. He was wounded in the back,leg and face in February 1917 and spent six weeks recovering. He rejoined his Battalion on 20 April 1917 only to be killed in action a few weeks later.
