Frederick James BRYANT, (Service Number 2103) born in Candelo in 1890, was employed in Sydney by Grace Bros for some years before he joined the Tramways in 1913 as a conductor, working out of the Newtown Depot. In May 1915 he was released from duty to enlist in the AIF at Liverpool.
Embarked from Sydney in June 1915, he joined his battalion at Gallipoli on 4 August 1915, and was reported missing in action between 6 and 9 August at Lone Pine; a month later this was amended to ‘killed in action’. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
Pensions were granted by the military authorities to his widowed mother and a sister, who were dependent on him.
