Son of Samuel Henry Mawer and Sussannah Mawer nee Short of Stoodley, Tasmania formerly of Railton. Tasmania. Brother of John Robert Mawer who returned to Australia on 4 September 1918 having served with the 58th Battalion, Catherine Maria Mawer, William David Mawer, Dagmar Mawer, Christina Mawer and Jessie Isobel Mawer

Commenced return to Australia on 31 January 1918 aboard HT Osterley disembarking on 13 April 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Tasmania
